The first eight weeks of the October training are built around one thing: a live two-hour Zoom session with your cohort, every Tuesday.

Around those live sessions, you'll work through eight online learning modules in your own time. They cover everything from the Singing Mamas method and the evidence base behind singing for wellbeing, to safeguarding, cultural honouring, and the practical knowledge you need to run a group with confidence. Each module requires approximately 1-2 hours of independent work.

But the modules are the preparation; the live sessions are where the real learning happens.

Kate leads every session, supported by an assistant facilitator who is also available to you between sessions. Each week the same group of women come back to the same Zoom room. Over eight weeks you really start to know each other.

The discussions that happen in those sessions aren't supplementary to the training. They are the training. It's so good to see what different people take from the learning and it helps to show you that every Singing Mamas community leader is an individual person, and every Singing Mamas community group is different and a product of that leader and the community she serves.

A few practical things worth knowing:

You need to attend at least 75% of live sessions to complete the training. If you miss a session, you can request the recording and catch up in your own time. Miss more than two sessions and we may ask you to arrange a catch-up call with Kate or the assistant facilitator, which would be charged separately.

There are two cohorts running in October:

Morning: 10am to 12pm UK time
Evening: 7.30pm to 9.30pm UK time

You choose your cohort at the point of booking. Once you're in, your time is fixed for the full eight weeks.

In our next email we will go into the second half of the training: the bit where you put your learning into practice.
